Christmas is just around the corner (can’t believe where the year as gone!) and we will all soon be putting up our trees, going on our work’s Christmas do, before having a mad dash to the shops for last minute presents on Christmas eve!!

But it’s Christmas dinner that generally causes the most stress for everyone, so before you get the emergency chairs out for the extra family coming over for a fabulous feast, I thought I’d share a few tips to make sure the cooking is stress free!

Stress Free Plan to Christmas Food

Plan your Menu – know what you are cooking and make detailed lists for shopping, you don’t want to forget that all important ingredient

Tick List –  Take time to make a tick list and a time table it may just save the day

No Experiments – don’t use Christmas day to try a new recipe, the bacon flavoured Ice cream can wait until New Year!

Cheat – where possible pre-prepared foods can be a life and time saver, Desserts are always the most time consuming aspect of the meal, so pop into Sugar Therapy and order a Christmas Dessert from our ‘Christmas with a Twist’ catalogue, I recommended the Melt in the Middle Christmas Pudding as an excellent dessert for after the turkey, lashings of Courvoisier Brandy Sauce hiding in a lightly fruited Christmas Spiced sponge pudding.

Get a good night’s sleep – It’s going to be a long day with all the cooking and you don’t want to be exhausted before you start!

Before you get started get all your equipment together.  You will need, wet wipes, kitchen roll, good quality make-up sponges, brushes (large and small)  HOT TIP – Fibre brushes produce a better quality face paint design than synthetic,  if you’re going to do a few faces it might be worth the investment in some good quality brushes.

Have a pot of water handy (mix with a little surgical spirit for hygiene purposes).  Put a little into a spray water bottle to continuously cleanse your brushes.

Paint Colours – White, black and grey (a mix of white and black is sufficient)

We recommend using Snazaroo- Ghost & Skull Facepaint Kit

STEP ONE        

Sit yourself comfortably at the same level as your subject with them  directly facing you and ensure their face is clean  

STEP TWO          

Use a headband to hold the hair back from their face whilst you work.

STEP THREE

Start process on left hand side of face if you are right handed and vice versa as this will be your most difficult area, then any imperfections can be matched more easily on the other side of the face

STEP FOUR         

• Begin with your base colour white.  
• Dip sponge into your water (wet only a small corner, no need for paint all over the sponge) and apply gently to full face. Remember you can add more easily than remove.
• Starting with one side of the face, cover sufficiently, just to edges and just below hairline

STEP FIVE

 Using large brush, dip in water, again not too wet, then add black face paint.   

TOP TIP – Work your way down the face to prevent touching lower colours with your hand when trying to paint above, always work downwards.

•  Apply black around each eye, like an eye patch, in one complete circle. 
• Go above eyebrow slightly and just below eye.  No need to paint over eyelid, you will get the effect with just a simple circle on each eye. 
• Smudge a little once complete with a small clean sponge, no water, to create a grey blend effect.

STEP SIX

 With a small brush draw uneven downward lines on forehead to create veins. 

STEP SEVEN

 Still using the small brush, create teeth simply by painting small black squares above and below lips.  No need to paint on to lips as this may smudge anyway.

CONGRATULATIONS – YOU HAVE CREATED A SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE SKELETON FACE PAINT
